Paper Maniac Thursday - Anything But a Card

Thursday, November 4, 2010

Hello!  Today is Paper Maniac Thursday!!!  This week on the Paper Maniac Blog the theme is ABC, which stands for Anything But a Card.  I think I copped out a bit since I technically did make a card, but they are "place-cards"!

I made four place cards, one for each member of my family.  The kids have already had fun using these at dinner.  They are going to be making their own versions for Thanksgiving this year, for many more people.

My place cards are made from a piece of 5.5" x 3.5" kraft card stock folded in half.  I attached some scraps of patterned paper from Apple Cider by Imaginisce.  I used a computer and printer for the names.  The font I used is called "Sketchy Times".  Under the names I stamped, for lack of a better word, a separator.  I positioned my Labels 9 Spellbinders Die exactly where I wanted it and ran it through my Cuttlebug. I sponged the edges with brown ink and then trimmed off the lower half of the die before attaching it to the base.
Next I added a light green rhinestone and some orange floss.  Lastly I rounded the bottom edges.  Repeat three more times!!!

I hope you enjoyed today's ABC!

A "Hope you're feeling better" Card...

Monday, October 11, 2010

Hello!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Ours was super busy, but I'll let you know all about it in a separate post.  Fall break is over for the kids and we are back to the normal routine.  I love routine.  I am such a creature of habit.

Anyway, the card I made today uses this week's CPS sketch.  I love simple, so I immediately wanted to give this a try.  After I figured out what papers I wanted to use, I then had to figure out how to cut a perfect curve.  I thought about using my oval nesties, but the largest one wasn't large enough.  Then I remembered my Coluzzle.  It worked like a charm.  You don't hear much about Coluzzle's these days.  If you don't know, a Coluzzle is a circle and oval cutting device that SU sold before they came out with their new circle cutter.
Now that I look at my card, I'm realizing that I could have done this a much easier way.  I should have just cut a kraft oval, glued it to the card and then trimmed off the sides.  Oh well, next time.  The center panel is cork and I created a wavy banner for my sentiment.  I love that 3D effect.

Thanks so much for visiting!!!  Have a great day!

OCC Challenge - Color Challenge

Saturday, September 25, 2010

Hello!  I hope you all are enjoying your weekend.  I'm here with a color challenge from Our Creative Corner. You can see the color combo on the left.  I don't have any of those exact colors, so I tried to match them as closely as possible with what I had on hand.  I did pretty good with the browns, but the blue I used was more of a navy.
The oval has a woodgrain pattern on it.  I think this card has on overall masculine feel to it, which is good since I'm giving it to one of my guy friends with his house warming gift.  I don't think he'll mind the ribbon and bling, at least I hope not.

Check out all the fabulous creations over at Our Creative Corner using this fantastic color combo.  I hope you have time to play along with us.

Have a great day!

Paper Maniac Thursday - Fall is in the Air!

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Hi there!  Today I'm sharing a clean and simple card to celebrate fall.  One of the things that make this card quick and easy is that I used some SRM Press stickers for the sentiment and leaf embellishments.  The patterned papers I chose comes from a collection called Apple Cider by Imaginisce.  The leaf stickers were applied to some pattern paper from the collection and then trimmed out.

Speaking of fall, Paper Maniac has just marked down all of their fall-related items!!!
Have a great day!

A "You've got a friend in me" Card

Monday, September 20, 2010

Hello!  Hope you all are having a happy Monday.  We had a great weekend, even though Scott was out of town on a "man-cation" from Wednesday through Sunday.  I have some great friends who kept us busy the whole time so we weren't sitting at home alone.  I've included some pics at the bottom of this post.

Now, onto my card.  This card uses the Sept. SOTM  (Topiaries) from Clear & Simple Stamps.   As soon as I saw the tall, thin topiaries, I knew they would look great repeated on a card.  The topiaries were stamped with Versamark onto white cardstock and then clear embossed.  I then sponged blue ink over the entire white area.
The image panels are popped up on foam dimensionals.  The patterned paper in the background is woodgrain.  I love the sentiments in this set, even though this one has me singing "You've got a friend in me" from Toy Story.

Now, here's a few pictures from our weekend.  We had a play date, a MaryKay party, a long drive to Archiver's and Borders, and a birthday party.  We stayed home yesterday to watch the Bengal's game, of course.  Scott came home from is "man-cation" for about an hour and then headed off to the game.  The Bengals won!!!

After the birthday party.  Halle and the birthday boy enjoying s'mores.

Halle & Colin decked out in their Bengal's gear playing on the deck with moon sand.  Moon Sand is definitely an outside activity.

Halle writing in her new diary (with a lock) that she bought at Border's using her gift card.
That's about it!  I hope to start including more pics every week.  Some of my favorite bloggers do this and I really enjoy it.

Have a great week!!!

OCC Challenge - Sketch Challenge

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Hey there!  It's Saturday and that means another fabulous challenge from Our Creative Corner.  This week we have a sketch challenge for you.  I was short on time, so I used a pre-made card base from Creative Cuts & More.  These are perfect to use for a quick card.  They even come with a score line.  I'm not sure of the exact color, but I know it perfectly matches the patterned paper (Apple Cider by Imaginisce).

Every layer of this card is matted with cork.  The cork I use is so thin that it really doesn't add any extra bulk to a card, no more than regular card stock.

The sentiment "grateful"  is an SRM Press sticker.  I've been having a ball using their stickers lately.  I never thought I was a sticker person, but these are great since they look like stamps.

Check out the other sketch samples from the talented design team by clicking ----> HERE.  I hope you make some time to get creative this week and play along with the sketch challenge.  Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Paper Maniac Thursday - Autumn Days

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Hello!  It's Paper Maniac Thursday.  The weather has been gorgeous here lately, so I thought I would make a card celebrating the changing of seasons.  All of the patterned paper I used comes from the Apple Cider collection from Imaginisce.  I used 4 patterns on my card. It's hard to see in the photo, but the band of brown is actually a woodgrain pattern.  The oval that the polka dots are matted on is a thin sheet of cork.  It adds an organic and earthy feel to the card.  The sentiment "autumn days" is an SRM sticker.  I simply cut around the ticket frame and adhered it to the card with a foam dimensional.

Thanks so much for dropping by!!!

An "I love you so much, Sweetheart" card...

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Hello!  I was so grateful I already had a project planned to share with you yesterday.  My allergies have been awful and the medicine I've been taking has been making me so drowsy and making my brain all fuzzy.  The last thing I wanted to do yesterday was sit down and make a card.  That is a feeling I'm not used to.  So, I held off on taking my allergy medicine until after I made a card (and had my grocery list finished) and it worked out so much better today.

So, about my card.  The awesome layout comes from this week's Mojo Monday sketch.  I wanted to keep this card masculine since I'm giving it to my husband for dealing with my crankiness and mood swings all weekend.  I had to keep apologizing for being so moody.  I'm blaming it all on the allergies.
The tag I used comes from Creative Cuts & More.  It was a minty green, so I sponged it with a little brown ink so it would go better with the color scheme of my card.  I'm sure you've noticed how much I've been using this burlap string.  Gosh, I just love it and now I'm completely out of it.  Why did I only order 3 yards of it?  I should have ordered a whole spool.

I hope you are all enjoying your day!  Thanks for visiting today!!!

A "Wise" Card...

Friday, September 3, 2010

Hey there!  I finally have a minute to post this card.  It's been done for a few hours now and I'm just now getting time to write this up.  I am so happy it's Friday and I can't wait to get this long weekend started.

The idea of this card was sparked when I was browsing through SCS and saw that the Free 4 All challenge for today was to use birds on your card.  I colored my owl with markers and tied a piece of burlap string by his feet to make it look like he's sitting a branch, or nest, or something.
The sentiment on this card says: "A wise owl once said..." and on the inside: "Happiness is not having what you want.  It is wanting what you have. -Unknown".

Have you all noticed the new Papertrey Ink sets I've been using lately?  No, I didn't go on a shopping spree and break all my Frugal Friday rules.  My friend Elisabeth from Pennsylvania let me borrow a whole stack of her PTI stamps.  Her daughter and my daughter are pen pals and our love paper crafting immediately sparked a connection between us.  Sadly, I'll be sending her stamps back soon, but it was so much fun while it lasted!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!!!

Paper Maniac Thursday - Back to School

Thursday, August 26, 2010

It's Paper Maniac Thursday and this week's theme is Back to School.  Since my kiddos went back to school a week and a half ago I decided to make a Thank You card fit for a teacher.  I know there will be many occasions throughout the year where a Thank You card will be needed.

My card is a 4.25" square.  I chose to use some apple patterned paper from the "Apple Cider" Paper Pad by imaginisce.  The green swirly paper is also from that pad.  I also used some paper from the Basic Grey "Basics Manila" paper pad.  There are a few pages that look like notebook paper.  I used one of those pieces for the sentiment and then I cut out the brown notebook page from a different sheet.

I hope you enjoyed my card for today!  Have a great day!!!

Paper Maniac Friday?

Friday, July 2, 2010

Hey guys!  I know I'm a day late on my regular Thursday Paper Maniac post.  My brain was fried and I just couldn't create anything worth sharing.  So, I stepped away for a day and then came back to create something I actually like.

For my card today I used up some scraps from the Green at Heart card kit from Basic Grey.  I had a bunch of strips of the patterned paper left and a few die cuts and chipboard pieces.  I cut the patterned paper scraps into 1.5" squares.  The white circle and balloon are die cuts from the kit and the string on the balloon is a rub-on from the kit.  I distressed the edges of the circles and added white faux stitching around the borders. The circles and balloon are popped up on foam dimensionals.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Have a great weekend!!!
