OCC Challenge - 3D Valentine

Saturday, January 29, 2011

Hello!  I have a fun challenge to share with you today from Our Creative Corner.  This week we are making 3D Valentines.  It can be a box, bag, altered item, anything that not flat like a card.

I've had so much fun being on the OCC Design Team, but this will be my last challenge on the team.  I've been on the team for a year and a half and have loved every minute of it.  I think it's just time for something new.

For my project, I made a pillow box and tag using my Silhouette.  I love the mix of the busy patterned paper with the solid tag.  If you are having a hard time reading the sentiment it says "A bushel and peck".

Don't forget to see the other design team inspirations at Our Creative Corner!

Have a great day!

OCC Challenge - Color Challenge w/ a Twist

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Hey guys!  We have a fun and unique challenge from Our Creative Corner for you today.  I've seen color charts before, but I've not made a card based on complimentary colors.  You can see the color chart to the left.  The challenge is to use three colors in order from the chart.

For my card, I used three colors in the lower right quadrant.  I chose a medium blue, aqua blue, and green.  You can also use black and white. I love how the colors pop off the white card stock.

I actually used three stamps from three different stamp sets. Each layer is popped up on foam dimensionals.

Be sure to check out the other samples at Our Creative Corner.  You'll find lots of inspiration from all over the color chart.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Our Creative Corner - Inspiration Challenge

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Hello!  I'm here bright and early with an inspiration challenge from Our Creative Corner.  I said I'd have something to share using stamping today, and I didn't disappoint.  I used a whopping three stamps sets on my card!

The picture we are drawing inspiration from is on the left.  I took inspiration from the color scheme, the cranberries, and the bird.  I used some gray, warm red, kraft, and black.  I thought that my card was sort of soothing, so I decided to make it a sympathy card.

I feel a little weird about making my bird black.  It looks like a crow and I have a feeling that that is somehow bad luck.  Hmm.  Not sure.

I cut the wreath out free hand.  It was originally a circle and when I went to stamp the wreath, it was off-center.  Bummer, but I think it turned out okay in the end.

Make sure you check out the talented group of ladies at Our Creative Corner.  They have some great samples to show you using the inspiration piece.  It's so interesting to how different each card is, even though we used the same inspiration.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

OCC Challenge - Thank You Recipe

Saturday, January 1, 2011

Happy New Year everyone!!!  I'm excited to share the first Our Creative Corner challenge of the new year with you. We have a lot of exciting things in store for you this year.  The first thing is there is a Design Team call.  You can find more details about that on Our Creative Corner.  Okay, for this weeks blog we have a recipe for you.  Make a "thank you" card/project using cream and blue, also include elements of metal and vellum.

I received a Silhouette SD for Christmas (which is so amazing I'm gonna write a separate post about it soon) and created a few elements for my card using it.  The blue shape and the leaves were digitally cut as well as the vellum flowers.  The flowers were cut as a spiral circle that you rolled into these flowers.  Very cool.
Obviously this card will not be one that I'll be putting in an envelope and mailing!

Make sure you check out the rest of the inspiration for this week's challenge at Our Creative Corner.

Have a great day!

OCC Challenge - Fa la la felt!

Saturday, December 25, 2010

Merry Christmas everyone!!!  I have a new Our Creative Corner to share with you today.  Get out your new crafty goodies and play along with us this week.  Speaking of new crafty goodies, my hubby got me a Silhouette SD for Christmas.  It's been on my Amazon Wishlist for quite a while and I was planning on purchasing it after the new year.  I'm so excited to play with it!

Back to the challenge!  The challenge this week is to felt or flocking on your card.  To me, felt and stitching go hand in hand.  I used my Labels 9 Spellbinders die to cut the felt and then used my sewing machine to adhere the sentiment.
Make sure you check out all of the inspiration at Our Creative Corner.  I hope all are having a blessed day and weekend with your family and friends. We are hosting my Mom's side of the family at our house and we've been cleaning for days.  I'm really looking forward to it, but I'll be glad when we can finally relax and stop worrying about all the things that need to get done.

Have a great day!

OCC Challenge - Embossed with Color

Saturday, December 18, 2010

Hello!  I have a fun challenge from Our Creative Corner to share with you today.  The challenge is to make a card adding color and depth to your dry embossing.  You can do this any number of ways, but the way I chose was to add ink to my embossing folder.

I chose to use a light green card stock and a darker green ink.  This was not the result I was expecting, but I really love it!  I simply rubbed my ink pad over the non-raised side of my embossing folder before I embossed it.  What you are left with is ink everywhere on the card stock except the raised areas.  I thought that the dark green ink would show up a lot darker but it really just settled into the impression lines.  It really adds a lot more depth than just regular embossing.  Those birds and swirls are just jumping off the page!
This challenge really reminds me of the reason behind doing challenges.  It's to try new things and stretch your creativity.   I would love to see what you create with this challenge.  I know it's a super busy time of year, but take a little time for yourself.  You won't regret it.  Make sure you check out all the creations at Our Creative Corner.

Best wishes to everyone trying to get it all done this weekend, like me!  I have the majority of my shopping completed, but there are so many little things that need to be finished.  Hang in there!
{Congrats}

OCC Challenge - Sketch Challenge

Saturday, December 11, 2010

Hello!  I'm here with a fun sketch challenge from Our Creative Corner.  I seriously think sketch challenges are my favorite.  It's so easy to make a card when you don't have to decide on a layout.  I am really digging the color combo on my card.  Blues, browns, and a lime-y green have such a calming feel.

The background text is stamped using Versamark.  I love the pops of green and I tried to use the "rule of threes" by having those pops of green on three place on my card.  I think it looks balanced, what do you think?
I hope you'll check out all the other awesome creations over at Our Creative Corner.  If you're getting crafty this week, I hope you'll join our challenge.

Have a great rest of your weekend!!!

OCC Challenge - Tag, You're It!

Saturday, November 27, 2010

Hello!  I'm here bright and early with a new challenge from Our Creative Corner.  This one is particularly fun and got me right in the holiday spirit.  The challenge is to make a tag.  Fun, right?  It does not need to be a holiday theme, it could be for anything.

For my tag, I chose to use a cream and red color scheme.  The patterned paper is from Be-Loved by My Mind's Eye.  I've been using that a lot lately.  I also used a spiral notebook die from Papertrey Ink as well as an oval and a labels 9 nestabilities die. I attached the tag to the handle on the bag by threading the rope through one of the center holes in the paper, then I also taped the tag to the bag to make sure it wasn't going anywhere.
I hope you have time to play in this fun challenge.  Head on over to Our Creative Corner and check out all the variations of tags we came up with.  Have a great weekend!!!

OCC Challenge - Color Challenge

Saturday, November 13, 2010

Hello and Happy Saturday!!!  I have this week's Our Creative Corner challenge to share with you.  This week is a color challenge.  You can see the colors to the left.  These colors are really warm and I thought this card would be easy.  But, I really struggled with it.  I like the overall look of my card, but I really with I could shuffle the colors around.

I used a scoring board to create the diamond panel.  Once all the lines were scored, I folded the cardstock and sponged the edge.  When I was done I just flatted out the panel and adhered it to the rust card stock.  The little blue circles came from a small hole punch (1/8" I think) and they are glued down using a drop of liquid glue.
Make sure you check out all of the design team samples at Our Creative Corner.  Make some time and get crafty with us this weekend.

Have a great day!

Our Creative Corner - Inspiration Challenge

Saturday, October 30, 2010

Hello!  I hope you are all enjoying your Saturday so far. This week is an inspiration challenge at Our Creative Corner.  Diane has picked a lovely and serene image for us.  I took inspiration from the soft, muted colors as well as the vase of flowers.

I broke out my Pocket Silhouettes set from Stampin' Up.  I haven't used it in forever because, quite frankly, I thought it was retired.  I have to say those images go perfectly with the inspiration photo.

It's very subtle, but I stamped text using cream ink onto the kraft card base. I think it really softens the card.

If you feel like getting crafty you should definitely give this challenge a try.  Make sure you stop by Our Creative Corner and check out the rest of the card samples.

I hope you all have a great weekend and have a safe Halloween.  Don't eat too much candy!

OCC Challenge - Spooky Color Challenge

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Hey all!  Sorry I was MIA yesterday, but if you've been following my tweets, you'd know that I was at the zoo on my son's field trip.  Fun times!
On to more serious matters, I'm here with a card sample for this week's Our Creative Corner challenge.  This week we have a color challenge and Diane picked a color scheme that would be great for a Halloween card, but feel free to make any kind of card you like.  My first thought was not to make a Halloween card, but then I remembered the new set, Beware, from Clear & Simple Stamps.  I knew it would be a match made in heaven.

It's hard to see unless you enlarge the photos that the purple and green are actually patterned paper from Hippy Girl by Kaiser Craft.  Love that collection!!!
Be sure to check out the rest of the card samples from the Our Creative Corner design team.  I love seeing the diversity of cards all using the same color palette.

Have a great day!

OCC Challenge - 3+ Embellishements

Saturday, October 16, 2010

Hello!  Happy Saturday.  We have a pretty low-key weekend planned and I can't wait to get it started.  So, Saturday means a new challenge from Our Creative Corner.  This week is a fun challenge where you can make any card you want, it just needs to have three or more embellishments.  This is quite a departure from the one-layer CAS card I made yesterday.
The embellies I chose were the flower punches (2 kinds), brads (2 kinds), so I have 4 total.  I hope you have time to play along.  As always, you'll want to check out the creations from the design team at Our Creative Corner.

Have a great day!
