A {Nuts About You} Card...

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Today is the fourth day of our cruise and this morning our kids opened this card:
This card is probably my least favorite out of all the cards I made for the kids, but I know they will love it.  For some reason some of the leaves look yellow, when in real life they are a minty green.  This card is one layer and uses two completely different sets of stamps from tow different stamp companies.

Today we'll be exploring the island of St. Maarten.  We are planning to go zip-lining.  I'm really excited about it!  I've never done it before and think it'll be a blast.

Have a great day!

A {Welcome Summer} Card Re-do...

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

Hey guys!  I'm almost embarrassed showing my face today.  I can't believe it's been 6 days since I've posted anything.  It was a totally unscheduled break.  For some reason, the last few weeks of the school year are always crazy busy and this year wasn't any different.  When I had time to be creative, I was exhausted.  I know you guys understand.

So, I was getting some cards ready on Monday (63 to be exact) to submit to CARDS Magazine (hopefully at least one will be accepted) and I was looking at some of my really old cards, ones that I would be too embarrassed to give away.  Do you have a stack of those?  Anyway I was thinking it would be fun to re-do some of those cards and see how much better my skill set is now.  Well, the first card I picked was one I made before I began blogging.  It was a Christmas card I made about 60 of and sent out to all of our friends and family.  I really liked the layout, so that's pretty much all I kept the same.

Card Re-do
I really do still like the original card.  I love those lightbulbs and how they look like glass (they were covered with glossy accents).  It would be fun if I still had those stamps to make use them, but that was all the way back in 2007.  So, my new card uses 4 stamp sets.  I didn't have that luxury back in the day.  If you are having a hard time reading the sentiment, it says "Welcome Summer", which we finally are doing.

The major differences are the stamps used and the overall feel of the card.   I replaced the brads with buttons, used some edge distressing, added a little interest around the sentiment (they are little cream leaves).  I left the ribbon off completely

I also added some dimension to this card by using foam dimensional adhesive behind the leaf squares.

I hope you thought today's post was fun.  Hopefully I make-over a few other cards.  It's fun to see how we've all evolved in this little crafty world.

Have a great day!

A {Giving Thanks} Card...

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Hello!  I'm so excited to share another card with you using Happy Fall by Clear & Simple Stamps.  This is such a versatile set.  Here I made a Thanksgiving card.  I used some lovely autumnal papers and then stamped the tree top and bottom using Versamark with some gold embossing powder.  I just love the end result.
The perimeter of the card is sponged in brown ink.  I added some gold brads as an accent.  I don't know if you've had the pleasure of using ribbon from Clear & Simple Stamps, but if you haven't you should give it a try.  It is so luxurious!!!  It's double sided satin.  That means you don't have to worry about flipping your ribbon so the matte side doesn't show.  I know what a pain that is and I love not having to ever worry about that with this ribbon.

Thank you for stopping by today!  Have a wonderful day!

An {Autumn Blessings} Card...

Monday, November 8, 2010

I'm so thankful I had a card already made to share with you today.  My daughter had a stomach virus last week and I caught it yesterday.  I practically spent the whole day in bed, which means my house is an absolute disaster area, and we're having company tomorrow.  I have so much to do and I'm definitely not 100% yet.
So, the card I'm sharing today uses the November SOTM, Happy Fall from Clear & Simple Stamps.  I created a little scene on my card.  The leaves are colored with red, yellow, and orange markers.  The tree trunk is paper pieced with brown card stock.  I used a rick-rack die for the grass and stamped some acorns and a squirrel.  The kraft card base is dry embossed with a distressed stripes embossing folder.

And here is a close-up so you can see the dimension.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Later this week I'll have some photos of my studio.  My husband painted the accent wall and hung up a few organizational items yesterday.  All that's left is the shelves and then putting everything back on my desk.

Have a great day!

Clear & Simple Stamps - November 2010 Release

Monday, November 1, 2010

Hi there friends!  It's the first day of November and that means a new SOTM from Clear & Simple Stamps!!!  This month's SOTM is called Happy Fall.  This set is so versatile, it can be used any time of the year.  I'm so happy I can finally share my projects with you.  You all know I'm not much of a colorer, but I had so much fun creating different color combinations with these leaves.

Without further ado, here is Happy Fall:
And here is just one of the cards I made with this set.  I took the non-traditional route with this card.  Instead of building a scene, I used the large leaf image along with the tree top to create a collage of sorts with circles.
I used Perfect Little Black Dress ink for all my stamping, then I colored in the images with markers.  There's a lot of dimension to this card.  I scattered orange rhinestones and brown buttons for added interest.
The sentiment uses a smaller leaf images and is popped up on dimensionals as well.  I love all the negative space on this card.  Very clean and simple.

We are also debuting a new color!  This month's color story is A Clean Slate.  This new color is also available today in card stock, ribbonink, re-inkers and buttons as well as the Copic Trio Bundle (pictured below).
Thanks so much for dropping by today.  I've really enjoyed working with this set and I know you will too.  Stay tuned for more cards using this set throughout the month.

Have a great day!
