Maya, cute as a button...

Friday, August 13, 2010

Hello!  We are headed to visit friends tonight that just had a baby girl.  I could have grabbed a baby card out of my stash, but I really wanted to make Maya a special card.  I picked up these glitter-y chipboard letters at Michaels a few weeks ago.  They look like they're covered in sugar.  I wanted this card to be super girlie and I think I succeeded.

I distressed the edges of the white panel and then I hand stitched a pink border around it.  I didn't have any pink buttons, so whipped out some nail polish and painted them.  (You can read more about painting your buttons HERE).  In case you can't read the sentiment, it says "cute as a button" and goes adorably with the buttons in the pea pod.
There are foam dimensionals between every layer.  The chip board letters came with a foam backing already. This card is an odd size.  It's 6" x 3.5".

I hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Monday, August 2, 2010

Hey guys!  Today is my Mom's birthday and needed to make her an extra special card.  Since my Mom reads my blog (Hi Mom!), I couldn't just grab a card out of my stash.  I wanted to make a card that was fun, but also one that took a lot of time and techniques.  I know this card looks simple, but the paper piecing was pretty time consuming.  I stamped the cupcake image on four types of paper (green, pink and white card stock and blue patterned paper).  I distressed some of the edges and sponged the edge of the white cupcake panel with light pink ink.  My Mom loves when I use buttons on my cards, so picking the cupcake image was a no-brainer for me.  I finished the card off with a big satin bow.

Of course my Mom loved it when I gave it to her earlier today.  She's been home from the hospital since Friday and is quickly adjusting back to normal life.  Mom, hope you are enjoying your special day!!!
