OCC Challenge - Sketch Challenge

Saturday, February 27, 2010

Hello! I'm here today with a new sketch challenge from Our Creative Corner. Sugar Creek Hollow is sponsoring the challenge this weekend and has graciously offered the DT the use of one of their digital stamps. Sugar Creek Hollow is a new digital stamp company and their grand opening is March 1st. They are a Christian company that is giving all of their proceeds to a food pantry. They are offering $10 in free digital images to the lucky winner of this week's random selection.

As you can see by my card above, I chose an image called Heart Filigree. I colored in the heart with a red marker. Once your image comes out of your printer, make sure it is dry before you start coloring or the black ink will bleed into your marker. Not pretty!
The sketch today used a ticket punch on the corners. I don't have a ticket punch, so I used a 1/2" circle punch to do the job. You just slide your corner in the punch until the corner is in the center of the circle, then punch! Voila! Who needs a ticket punch?

I hope you get a chance to participate this week! Head on over to Our Creative Corner and see the other digital images the DT used on their projects.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

February Papertrey Ink Blog Hop

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Hello! Tonight is the February Papertrey Ink Blog Hop. I'm so glad I came across a blog this morning reminding me about the hop. It's been a few months since I've been able to participate, simply because I forgot!

Anyhow, this month Nichole Heady asked us to check out the PTI design team gallery and pick a card to CASE. This is the card I picked, designed by Lisa Johnson.
I kept the layout pretty much the same since that was what really drew me to her card. Lisa used Polka Dot Basics and I used Text Style. Lisa and I both used Everyday Button Bits for our image and sentiment, we just used different ones. I wanted my card to have a masculine feel, so I left off the bow and centered the sentiment panel. I also used an oval for the image instead of a circle.
The sentiment strip I used actually has a curve to it. I used a foam dimensional in the center to achieve this. I hope you can see it in the above picture.
The patterned paper I used is from Basic Grey's Origins paper pad.

I hope you all are enjoying the hop! Thanks so much for stopping by!!!

Paper Maniac Thursday - Neutrals!

Hello! It's Paper Maniac Thursday here on my blog! This week, the DT has been focusing on using neutrals on our cards. When I think of neutrals, brown is the first color that comes to mind. I made this card using Basic Grey's Origins Paper Pad. The collection is filled with neutrals and all sorts of earthy colors.
The ribbon also comes from the Paper Maniac store. It's taupe, which is a hard color to find and you won't find it any cheaper than at the Paper Maniac store. It's a great neutral that works well with virtually any color you pair it with.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!!

Heartfelt Thanks...

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Hello! I made this card this morning and love it! It all came together so easily once I knew what I wanted to do. Once again, I used the Love Me Do collection from My Mind's Eye. I just love how easy these papers coordinate together.

This card has a lot of dimension. There are foam dimensionals between every layer. The top layer of kraft is distressed around the edges and then the edges are outlined with white stitching using a gel pen. I punched the heart out, and then backed it with foam dimensionals and square of plaid patterned paper.
The red heart is a die cut that came with the paper collection. I love everything about this card!!! Don't you just love when that happens?

Have a great day everyone!!!

{Heartfelt Thanks}

Kind Thanks...

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Hello friends!!! I have another card for you that uses the Love Me Do papers from My Mind's Eye. I just can't get enough of it! (Click here to see the card I made yesterday using the same collection). I love all the small patterns. That makes it so easy to coordinate many sheets on the same card.

This card is pretty simple. I cut 3 circles using my Coluzzle (circle cutting system), layered them and then cut off what was hanging over the edges. I adhered a 1 inch strip of kraft and then applied the zig zag ric rac on top.
The ric rac and heart are both die cuts that came with the Love Me Do collection. So cute!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!!!

To know you is to love you...

Monday, February 22, 2010

Hello! I hope you are having a great Monday! I received a package from Northridge Media over the weekend that included these awesome papers from My Mind's Eye. The collection is called "Love Me Do" and I do love it! I couldn't wait to make a card this morning and the Mojo Monday sketch was the perfect for it.

I don't have any red brads, so I improvised by using some small circles I punched using a hole punch. I think they are 1/4". My finished card size is a 4.25" square.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

OCC Challenge & Paper Maniac Baby Blog Hop

Saturday, February 20, 2010

Hello! It's an exciting day here on my blog. I'm here with a new Our Creative Corner challenge, which is to try a new technique. Any technique that is new to you! Splitcoast Stampers is a great resource for techniques and tutorials. The technique that I tried today is called Folded Paper Frame. The paper I used is not double sided, so I adhered the two papers together using snail adhesive and then cut the square to the size I needed.
I am also taking part in a mini blog hop with Paper Maniac to celebrate the birth of a new baby on our DT. Jessy was scheduled for a C-Section on Wednesday. I made my card gender neutral since we don't know the sex of the baby yet. Sending you and your family some lovin', Jessy!!! If you are following our Baby Blog Hop, you should have arrived here from Angie's blog. If you did not and want to start from the beginning, you'll need to go back to the Paper Maniac Blog. The next stop on our Baby Blog Hop is Stephanie!!!
There's also some blog candy to go along with the Baby Blog Hop. All you need to do is leave a comment on the last blog on the hop. Good luck winning these awesome St. Patrick's day goodies.
I hope you have some time to try a new technique this week! Please visit Our Creative Corner to check out all the new techniques the DT tried this week!!!

A Simple "Thank You" Card...

Friday, February 19, 2010

TGIF! I've had this idea for a card since yesterday and am thankful I was finally able to bring it to fruition today. I had many versions of this card in my head, and this was just one of them. I love graphic cards and cards that leave open space. This card has both! I would like to eventually make a set of these arranging the circles differently on each card.

I hope you have a fun weekend planned! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today!!!

Paper Maniac Thursday - More Monochromatic

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Hello! It's Paper Maniac Thursday on my blog!!! We are keeping with last week's theme of monochromatic, but switching our colors to greens, blues, and purples. Since green is my favorite color, that's what I decided to use for my card.

I am a really big fan of this card layout. It's a great way to show off gorgeous patterned paper like this from Basic Grey. I like using a bolder pattern on the circle and then a smaller print in the background.

The stamp I used is from Hero Arts, which is currently out of stock. There are many MANY choices available in the Paper Maniac store.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!!

Enjoy the Ride...

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Hello! Another snow day here in Northern Kentucky!!! I don't think the kids are going to make it to school this week. I need to get outside and take some pics to share with you. I just went out to the mailbox and the snow drifts were up to my knees!

Amidst all this snow, I've made a card that screams SPRING! This was also the theme for the Clean & Simple challenge yesterday on SCS. I love this color combination. I used a piercing template for the swirls, although the holes were spaced much wider. So I just pierced in between them as well. You can find the template I used here.
The top layer of each butterfly is covered in stickles and I used clear rhinestones for the centers. This is the first time I have layered two butterfly punches and I love the 3D look. Will definitely be using that again!

I hope you enjoyed this super simple card! Have a great day!!!

OCC Challenge - Something Old

Monday, February 15, 2010

Hello! You may have noticed I was absent from this week's Our Creative Corner challenge. I tried and tried to make a card, but my brain was fried!!! I decided to just stop and give myself a break. So, I took my crappy card apart and reworked it this morning. I really like the way it turned out, but it was very hard to photograph.

The challenge this week is to use something you've had for a long time and never used. As soon as received this paper from Paper Maniac, I knew I wanted to emboss it with snowflakes. So I did just that and never used it on a card. Until now!!! The paper has a pearlized metallic shimmer that was really hard to capture in the photo.
I didn't want to take away from the embossed snowflakes, so I kept the rest of the card pretty simple. This card is also an homage to the 9 inches of snow we are getting here in Northern KY!!!! It is crazy!!! I think the kids are going to be off school all week.

Please head on over to Our Creative Corner and see what the rest of the DT pulled out of their stash to use on their cards. I hope you have time to play along with us!!!
