Blue For You - Paper Maniac Blog Hop & OCC Challenge

Saturday, January 30, 2010

Hello! It's a big day here on my blog! Welcome to Paper Maniac's Magical Mystery Blog Hop as well as a new challenge from Our Creative Corner. If you arrived here from Angie Cortes' blog, you are on the right track. If not, you'll want to go to the Paper Maniac Blog and start from the beginning.

For the Paper Maniac Mystery Blog Hop, we were to create a card using music from The Beatles as inspiration. We were able to pick from their 300+ songs. I chose a song based solely on the paper crafting supplies I had in mind. I chose the song Blue For You. My card uses a lot of blue and includes the words "for you".
Like always, there is a new challenge up at Our Creative Corner today. Coincidentally, the theme this week is music. Please check out all the DT creations using music at Our Creative Corner.

Blog Candy! Leave a comment on all of the blog hop participants blogs for a chance to win the blog candy below. If you are not a registered member of Paper Maniac, sign up now (yes, right now!!!) for a chance to win a $20 gift certificate to use in the store.

The next person on the blog hop is Christine Nay. Thanks so much for stopping by today!!!

Just a little something... for the Embellish Magazine Challenge

Friday, January 29, 2010

Hello & Happy Friday!!! I'm so glad the weekend is here! While I was browsing my regular blogs this morning, I saw that Embellish Magazine announced a new challenge. The challenge is to use pink, brown, and turquoise on your card along with ribbon.

The damask patterned paper I used is actually white and turquoise, so I sponged some light pink ink over the whole piece so the pattern paper would now be pink and turquoise. I did this so that the white sheer ribbon wouldn't blend in with the patterned paper. I think it worked!
Did ya notice that button? It's another button from my grandma's stash. This is one of my favorites and I've been using them sparingly (they must've come from a sweater, because I had about 6 of them). I think it fits the card perfectly!

Have a great weekend! Tomorrow is a big day on my blog. There will be a new challenge from Our Creative Corner as well as the Paper Maniac Blog Hop. I hope to see you tomorrow!!!

Paper Maniac Thursday - Images, Front & Center

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Hello! It's a Paper Maniac day here on my blog. This week on the Paper Maniac blog, we are using our stamped images as the main attraction, putting them front and center on our cards. I chose to use this flower image from Unity (October KOTM). I added rhinestones to the flower centers to add even more interest.
I kept the background pretty simple so it wouldn't overpower the main image. I finished it off with a sentiment from Our Craft Corner's Thankful Flourishes set.

Thanks so much for visiting today!!!

Happy Birthday Sketch Challenge Card...

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Hello there! I made this card this morning for the Sketch Challenge at SCS. I really wanted this gorgeous paper to be the focal point of my card. It is from Cosmo Cricket's Early Bird collection. Since the papers are so busy, I kept the embellishments to a minimum.
I doubled up on the ribbon. I wrapped a piece around the card, but under the sentiment panel and then I took another piece of ribbon and tied it in a bow around the sentiment panel.

Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy day to spend a few minutes with me. Have a great day!

Thanks card...

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Hey guys! I'm here with a card that uses the Mojo Monday sketch. The patterned paper I used is from Basic Grey's Origins paper pad. The papers I chose for the background have the same pattern, but in different (complimentary) colors. I made sure to keep the pattern running in the same direction.
The finished size of this card is a 4.25" square. I've been making a lot of cards this size lately. They fit in a standard A2 envelope and you can get two cards out of one 8.5" x 11" sheet.

Have a great day!!!

{Thanks}

Love...

Monday, January 25, 2010

Hello! I hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was super busy, but filled with friends and family, so it was great. I decided to make another Valentine's Day card. This one is pretty simple since it uses three punches (square, heart, and blossom). I used up some scraps too. This card is a 4.25" square.

Here's a close-up to show the fun dimension this card has. I used an edge distresser on the circle panel and then inked the edges as well. Nothing says love like RED!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by today!

OCC Challenge - Sketch Challenge

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Good Morning! Welcome to another Our Creative Corner challenge! This week is a sketch challenge. I broke out some of my new Basic Grey Origins papers for this card. The colors in that pack are sorta retro. I used my Coluzzle for the circles and narrow strips of ribbon to border my sentiment.
These butterflies look like they just "landed" on my card. I love that 3D look.
I hope you can play along with us this week. If you haven't done so already, head on over to Our Creative Corner to see all the variations of this sketch.

Have a great weekend!!!

Kiss Me Card...

Friday, January 22, 2010

Hello and Happy Friday!!! Paper Maniac is sponsoring a sketch at Delightful Sketches this week and I decided to grab some of my new goodies and play along. I am truly smitten with this card. It was so much fun to make and I love how it turned out. I've really struggled with my cards this week, so this was a welcome change when everything just came together.

I wanted the circle panel to be special since the sketch called for an image (I am such a rule breaker), so I jazzed it up with a bunch of red rhinestones and silver pearls. The patterned papers I used are from Little Yellow Bicycle's Sweet Love tablet. The tablet includes a sheet of stickers (I used the "kiss me" one), 12 decorative edge patterned papers, and 10 coordinating patterned papers. So fun and perfect for Valentine's Day!
I used a piece of Elan Metallic cardstock in Graphite as my card base. I think it works well with the silver pearls. It just occurred to me that I didn't stamp anything for this card. Hmm. That doesn't happen very often.

I hope you have time today to play along with this Delightful Sketch. Paper Maniac is giving away a $40 gift certificate to one lucky player.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Paper Maniac Thursday - Texture, Buttons and Faux Stitching

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Hello! It's Paper Maniac Thursday! We've been focusing on texture, buttons, and faux stitching this week on the Paper Maniac Blog. My card uses all three elements. For texture, I used an embossing folder to give the dark brown cardstock the texture of tree bark. The rectangle of cork adds a bit of texture as well. The owl image is from Hero Arts and I hand drew the branch with a brown marker. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the owl's eyes are orange rhinestones. The sentiment is from Imaginisce. I added a button accent in the corner and finished the card off with some faux stitching around the perimeter.
I used two kinds of Spellbinders dies on my card- oval and scalloped rectangle. Thanks for stopping by today!

You're espresso-ly wonderful!

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Hello! These two cards were made for Scott's aunt who has friends that work for a coffee company. She thought they would love cards using these stamps. I colored the mugs and coffee using watercolor pencils, coloring heavily. And then I used an aqua-painter over top of that.
I hope she likes how they turned out. It always a bit nerve wracking thinking about if it turned out how they thought it would. We'll see.

Thanks for visiting my blog today!

Happy Birthday Texture Card

Hello! There's a new challenge up on the Paper Maniac blog today. This week is a technique challenge to use texture, interesting buttons, and faux stitching on your card. All the yellow and orange paper used on my card is textured Bazzill paper.
I sponged distress ink on most of the edges on my card for a vintage feel.
It was really a happy accident that this stamp goes so well with this paper. The loop-de-loops around the flowers are mimicked in the loop-de-loops in the sentiment. Love when that happens.

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Birthday Mojo Card

Monday, January 18, 2010

Make sure you read this post all the way through for a special Paper Maniac offer!
Hey guys! I hope you all have the day off and are getting crafty! The kids are home with me today, but I was still able make a card. I'm loving my new craft area. I still need to get organized, but it's so nice to be able to leave a project half-finished, leave all your supplies out, and come back later to finish.

Today's card uses the Mojo Monday sketch. I used papers from Cosmo Cricket's Early Bird mini deck. I once again used Imaginsce's Happy Birthday Stamp Set. This set comes with 3 acrylic stamps for 49 cents. You can't beat that deal. And I've used it so much over the last week.
Since winter CHA is going on right now, Paper Maniac's shipping department is closed. This is good news for you since Patti is offering 10% off your entire order over $25 through January 26th. Use coupon code PATIENT_ME . Remember your order will not ship until after 1/26.

Thanks for visiting my blog today!
