My first digital scrapbook page...

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Hey guys!  This is my very first digital scrapbooking page I made with PhotoShop Elements.   I had no idea how to use the program, but I followed these tutorials on Two Peas in a Bucket by Sande Kreiger.  The lessons were awesome and it really is easy.  AND no supplies to pull out and put away.  I can just print it out and stick it in an 8.5" x 11" scrapbook.  You can also make 12 x 12 pages, you just have to get those printed out professionally.

I made this layout using a free kit called "Life's Simple Pleasures".  There are many free kits here for you to use for your personal scrapbooking.  Everything I used came from that kit except for the red button which came from "My Little Ladybug".

Please feel free to leave me a question in the comments.

Have a great day!

A Mojo Card & A Sewing Project

Monday, March 30, 2009

Hello!  Here is my card for both Mojo Monday and Dawn McVey's Raspberry Suite Color Challenge.  Such a cute color combo.  I know it is hard to read the sentiment, it says "I made a wish and you came true".  Just one of the many sentiments in the Wonderful Wishes stamp set from Verve Stamps.

I mentioned Friday that I had a little sewing project going on.  Well, I wanted to make a pouch to hold my Kindle.  It game with a faux leather/suede cover, but my kindle wouldn't stay put inside.  Anyway, I purchased this little sewing machine from Walmart, bought a yard of fabric and went to town.  Even though the sewing machine left a lot to be desired, I did manage to complete the pouch before returning it to Walmart the next day.  I would definitely not recommend this machine.  About every four or five inches the thread would break and I would have to re-thread the machine.  Very frustrating.
The button is just for looks.  It is a 'mother of pearl' type button that is hard to see in the picture.
I also made my daughter a little matching change purse.  Hope you all are having a good start to your week!

Simple & Elegant

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Hello!  I have another clean and simple card for your today.  I just love the flower stamp from Papertrey's set called Friends 'til the end.  The center panel was cut and embossed using one of my new scalloped rectangle Nestabilities.  This was the very first time I used the Papertrey set Fresh Alphabet.  I found it a little tricky to line them up straight and with even spacing.  I'll have to look for some tips.  Do you have any?

Here's a close-up so you can see that the center panel is popped up on foam dimensionals.
I'm so excited to be getting PhotoShop Elements today!!  Look for a new blog header soon and some dabbling into digital scrapbooking.  I can't wait to play around.

Have a great rest of your day!

Papertrey Ink March Blog Hop

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Thanks for popping by my blog tonight.  Today I made a card specifically for the Papertrey Ink March Blog Hop.  The requirements this month were to make a project using stamps to build a background.  I decided to use the stamp set Around & About Sentiments and I have a nifty trick to show you.

As you can see in the picture above, I placed a piece of notebook paper behind my card stock.  This helped keep the stamps straight as well as ensure even spacing.
Voila!  Here's how it turned out.  A card for anyone and for any happy occasion.
Here's a close-up so you can see that those stars are really popped out.

Enjoy the hop and thanks for stopping by!

My Sweet & Simple Card

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Hey guys!  I received this stamp set over the weekend and have been dying to use it.   I would definitely categorize this card as CAS (clean and simple).  This card would be super easy to mass produce.  If I had more colors of ribbon I would be tempted to make a card in every color.  This card uses Spring Moss card stock New Leaf Twill Ribbon from Papertrey Ink and Garden Green ink from Stampin' Up  And that's it!   I made a mask of the flower so that the leaves didn't overlap.  Read more about this technique by clicking here.

After I made this card, I headed over to Jen Tapler's blog and she is having a massive blog candy giveaway.  She is asking her readers to make a card and send it to her to be auctioned off for  money for the Alzheimer's Association.  So, I made another card one of these cards to send to Jen.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Mojo Monday & a Raspberry Suite Challenge

Monday, March 23, 2009

Hello!  Well, Spring Break is officially over and it's time to get back into my stampin' and bloggin' routine.  Today's card was made using a combination of two challenges.  First, the layout comes from this sketch from the Mojo Monday Blog.  Next, the colors came from a color challenge from my favorite blogger, Dawn McVey.

Notice those great stamps I used?  They are Verve Stamps!  The flower comes from a set called "Thoughtful Florals".  The center of the flowers have a dot of Crystal Effects in the center for a little added interest.  The sentiment comes from a set called "Wonderful Wishes".  Loving these stamps so far.  I also received my Papertrey Ink order over the weekend.  I ordered a pack of assorted paper and used three of those colors in this card.  I cannot begin to tell you how much I love this paper.  Such high quality and brilliant colors.

I mentioned on Friday that my friend Sherry was getting married that night.  Well, everything was beautiful and we had a wonderful evening.  This is a picture of me with my best girls.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Sherry's Wedding Day!

Friday, March 20, 2009

Hey guys!  I know you must be so sick of these butterflies (my Mom even told me so), but my friend Sherry, the butterfly fanatic, is getting married tonight and I needed to make a card.  How's that for a run-on sentence?  Anyway, Sherry's bridesmaids dresses are purple and that is also her favorite color.  I took these pictures outside for the natural light, but it also picked up some shadows.  Oh well, you get the gist.
The centers of the butterflies gem stickers and those are pearls under the word "Celebrate".  The sentiment was printed off the computer and I can't believe how closely the printer ink matched up with the Lavender Lace card stock-and on the first try too!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  I know the wedding tonight will be amazing!

Hey there!  I made this card this morning and it took forEVER!  A big chunk of time was figuring out how to emboss using my new rectangle nesties, and then I didn't even use it on this card.  Figures.  Anyhoo, this card was made using today's sketch challenge at SCS.  I love a good challenge.  I used some new American Crafts Thickers on this card.  The stickiness is very forgiving.  I was able to move them around a bunch.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!!

Soccer Girl

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Hello! The kids and I trekked out to Hobby Lobby today and we bought a few goodies. I purchased my very first Spellbinder Nestabilities Dies. I bought the long large scalloped rectangles. They are so cool! I can't wait to play some more. The soccer girl image, again from Dog Gone Stamps, is matted with one of these new scalloped rectangles. The ribbon I used is Offray and I originally bought it to make hair bows for Halle. I think it works. Very girlie!

Our Spring Break is going great so far. My nieces and nephew came over last night to play outside with Halle and Colin. Today we drove up to Scott's work and had a picnic lunch at a nearby playground (pit stop at Hobby Lobby). The weather is perfect today! I would be in heaven if it stayed like this for a while. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Awesome Golfer Card

Monday, March 16, 2009

Happy Monday!!! We are on spring break this week so it really is a happy Monday. I made this card over the weekend using the golfer image from Dog Gone Stamps. Since this is a masculine card, I didn't want to over do it with embellishments. I kept it clean and simple. The sentiment is a rub-on from the Chit Chat collection from SU. The original sentiment said "birthdays are awesome and so are you" so I just cut out the words I needed which are "you are awesome".

Funky Monogram

TGIF! I made a fun and funky card for today using American Crafts paper and my JustRite Monogram Stamper. The paper pack is called "Celebration" and I used the pattern side and two solid sides. As for the JustRite Stamper, I used the Special Occasions Kit. Sorry this is so short! Gotta run!

Golfing Birthday Card

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Hello!  For today's card I used a golf bag image from Dog Gone Stamps.  Since these stamps are so detailed, I like to keep the embellishments to a minimum so that the image is the star of the card.  I have had twill tape for soooo long (like 3 years) and I think this is maybe the third time I've ever used it.  It looks good on a masculine card and I like the roughness of the frayed edges.

I hope you are all having a great day!

A Thank You Card

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Hey guys!  I'm having one of those very rare days where everything is going my way. Can you believe it?

  • I made blueberry muffins this morning as a special reward for Halle
  • I was delighted to find out the Papertrey Ink is coming out with a sequel to one of my favorite sets, Guidelines.  Click here for the yummy details on Guidelines Two.
  • I decided to pull out my Guidelines set to make a card today and it all came together perfectly.
  • I went to the bank to make a deposit and my deposit was $5 over!
  • I had an extra few minutes before I needed to pick the kids up from school, so I ran in the grocery store and picked up some strawberries and whipped cream.  That $5 was really burning a hole in my pocket!  I'm going to bake a pound cake and make strawberry shortcake tonight.
  • Scott and I are both finally going to be home together tonight and I think that's a great reason to have a special dessert.
  • Dinner tonight is a crock pot meal so I won't be rushing around at dinnertime.
  • Life is good!
Okay, so onto the card.  I used Guidelines from Papertrey Ink for the background.  The ink is Old Olive and Creamy Caramel (the Creamy Caramel was "stamped off" before stamping on the green).  The edges are inked with Tea Dye Distress Ink from Ranger and then lightly sponged over the entire surface (green and white papers).  The stitching was hand-stitched using SU's mat pack and DMC Floss.

Hope you are having a good day too!

{Thank You}

Butterfly Thanks!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Hello!  I've been wanting to make a card with ribbon loops for a while now. I actually wanted two rows, but haven't quite figured that out yet.  This color combo is so classic and I love the added bling from the clear gems.  I faux stitched the perimeter using a fine tip sharpie.
I'm very happy to report that this card made Kristina Werner's top 10 picks!!!

Mojo Monday

Monday, March 9, 2009

Hey guys!  We've all been sick, sick, sick here.  My head is sooo stuffy and runny (is that even possible?).  My hubby had to work from home 4 days last week and Colin missed 2 days of school.  I think it's all the beautiful weather we've been having.  It went from 18* to 70* in one week.  That will mess up anyones system.  Luckily Halle didn't get anything.

The card I made today uses a stamp from Dog Gone Stamps called Zen Frog.  Isn't he peaceful looking?  The layout for today comes from Mojo Monday Sketch #77.   I've been sketching layouts while I've been under the weather so you can look forward to seeing some great cards this week.

Take care!
Dana

Just for you color challenge...

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Hey ladies!  It's time for another KWerner Color Inspiration Challenge!  The colors this week are Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink, and Whisper White.  I used my new Papertrey Ink set Around and About Sentiments again today.  It is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
There are two lines of the sentiment "Just for you", but you can barely see the top pink line in the photo.   There is also faux stitching around the circle that is also hard to see.
Here is a close up.  I took the pic below to show all the dimension in this card.  I used 3D Foam Dots as well as SU Dimensionals.   Click on it to enlarge.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Golfing Birthday Card!

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Hello!  I made this card for my brother whose birthday is today.  We are supposed to be going out to dinner tonight, but Colin came home from school sick.  My husband came home from work sick yesterday.  Hopefully all the sickness will pass before Halle and I get it.

Onto the card.  The golfer image is from Dog Gone Stamps.   I used a sponge, ink, and a torn edge of paper to create the cloud effect in the background.  The "Happy Birthday to You" sentiment is from Around and About Sentiments from Papertrey Ink.

Have a great day!  I'm going to try and stay healthy and hopefully be back tomorrow with a Kwerner color challenge card.

The Circus

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

We went to the circus last week and I'm just now getting the pictures loaded.  We started off the evening at one of our favorite restaurants, Skyline Chili.  My sister-in-law Steph and my niece Kimberly went with us.  This was the first time Halle and Colin have been to the circus and they loved it!

Here's Colin, Halle, and Kimberly before the show started.
Here's Colin wearing a clown nose.
This photo was taken during the Finale.  What a great show.
I think we started a new family tradition.  We all had so much fun!
