A {Best One Yet} Card...

 I made this card yesterday and am just now getting around to posting it.  This card is for my husband.  He goes on a trip to Dale Hollow every year with the men in his family and friends.  It's a tradition that's been going on for about 25 years (he hasn't gone for 25, but his family has).  Anyway, he left yesterday and I tucked this card under his iPad cover for him to discover later.

This card is rather masculine.  The chevron stripes are stamped with brown ink and then I used a regular old marker to color in the stripes with red. I added the white faux stitching last.  It just looked a little boring before that.  The red stitching is real, though.  I hope he likes it.

I added a little dimension to the sentiment panel.  It's a little wavy, like a flag/banner.

A {Congrats} Card...

Here's a quick and fun card I made this morning.  This was my last before packing up my desk and loading up my tote for Papertrey Ink's Stamp-A-Faire.  I'm so excited, can ya tell?


This is a one layer card stamped using a trio of brightly colored inks.  I was somehow able to find coordinating thread in my stash.  I punched little notches with my hole punch to keep them in place.  I really love how it turned out.  I used my very favorite PTI stamp set, Signature Greetings designed by the one and only Dawn McVey, and I'll be hanging out with her tomorrow!!!

I'm all packed and ready to go!  I can't believe I was able to fit everything in there.  The only problem is that I haven't planned anything out.  I have no idea what I'm going to work on.  

Maybe I'll come up with a plan tonight.  I can't believe I'm not going to see my kids for a whole day.  I'll be leaving before they wake up and getting home after they are in bed.  That usually only happens when my husband and I go out of town, not when I'll be 25 minutes away.

A Simple {Friendship} Card...

Hello!  Today I thought I'd try a new technique that I hadn't heard of before watching the Make-It-Monday video yesterday on Papertrey Ink.  It's a technique called dry brushing.  The video shows paint but as says you can use ink, which is what I used.  I simply inked up my brush and lightly painted the white ink on the card starting from the edge dragging the brush to the center of the card.  I stamped the white chevron stripes before I did the dry brushing.

To make the flower, I used a scalloped circle punch and used scissors to cut a spiral to the center of the circle and then rolled it from the outside to the inside.  It's adhered with glue dots and then I added the black brad to sort of ground it.

You can see the edge of the card where I did the dry brushing technique.  I think it gives the card a sort of shabby chic feel.  What do yo think?

A {You Float My Boat} Card...

Hi & Happy Friday!!!  We have a busy night and weekend ahead of us, but it's all fun stuff and I can't wait to get started.  I made this card for the Embellish Magazine Challenge which was to use the colors in my card as well as to use a nautical theme.

I feel like this card is a bit technique-y.  I don't have any tag dies, so I made my own by using a Labels 9 Spellbinder's die and sliding the kraft card stock just under a portion of the die.  I stamped the chevron stripes first on the light blue card stock and then on the kraft, then lined them up before the tag was adhered.  I stamped the boat on white card stock, colored it with copics.  I used an x-acto knife to cut a small portion of the chevron stripes on the tag so I could slide the boat under the "waves".  The boat also was also outlined using a W3 copic marker so it would pop off the page a bit more.

I love the baker's twine on the tag.  I wrapped the twine through the hole about four times, tied a bow and then cut the loops.

A {Whale of a Happy Birthday} Card...

Hello and happy Monday!!!  I hope you are having a great day.  So far so good here.  I was so excited to play with some new stamping goodies this morning.  I ordered two new stamp sets from Papertrey Ink.  The sets are Whale Wishes and Chevron Stripes.  I'm loving them both.  To tell you the truth I had not thought to use these two sets together, but it just made sense when I sat down in my studio.  The chevron stripes give the  feeling of waves which is a perfect background for the whale stamp.

This week's Make it Monday challenge from Papertrey Ink is to use the rock-n-roll technique where you roll darker ink along the perimeter of your stamp.  I did mine a little differently than the video on the PTI blog.  I tried it their way first but my ink dried to quickly.  So, I stamped the whale first using Simply Blue-tiful ink and then I cleaned off the stamp and then stamped the whale once again (on top of the first one) with the whale inked with Your Style Blue Me Away ink around the perimeter.  I really like the effect.

I have to say that I'm loving the chevron stripes.  They are so forgiving.  If your stamp is off a bit, you won't be able to tell in the long run.  These are so much fun.
