Happy Birthday Card!

Happy Monday! Is there such a thing? LOL! Anyway, we had a great weekend here and it is starting to snow! I know it's not going to stick, but it's so pretty!

I made this card for my Father-In-Law. His birthday is tomorrow but we'll give it to him tonight. This is a CASE from Kristina Werner's Make-A-Card-Monday. This is a card that definitely looks better in person. The white letters don't really blend into the background like they do in the picture. Out of all the stamps I own, I don't have stamp that just says "birthday" or even "happy birthday". I used the stamp set "So Many Scallops" and used a marker to color just the word "birthday". Just another reason I can't wait for my Stampin' Up order to come in!!!

"Sweet One" Baby Card

Scott and I are headed to a baby shower/couples shower tonight. The shower is for our friends from West Virginia that we almost never get to see. We don't know if they are expecting a boy or girl. I hope this card looks gender neutral. I used the "sweet one" stamp from the "So Many Scallops" set from Stampin' Up. I used a combination of 3D Dots and Dimensionals to get a 3D look on the card. I stamped the image three times. I used Yo Yo Yellow and cut out the sun, Mellow Moss and cut out the circle, and Night of Navy ink on Brocade Blue card stock for the "sweet one" banner. Easy Congratulations Card!

Hello! I'm so sorry my posts have been a bit erratic lately. Hopefully I'm back on the right track. When my friend (and SU! consultant) Haley came over for my party on Sunday, she brought a bunch of Cuttlebug embossing folders and dies. I went through my scrap pile and embossed one of every folder. Now that I had some already embossed papers, this card was a breeze. The square panel is popped out with foam tape as you can see in the picture below.

More Ornament Masking!

I've had a busy few days but had some time to play around last night. This card is similar to the last card I posted (below this post). I used the same masking technique but upped the degree of difficulty. I added two ornaments and some pine needles in the background. I wanted to tie gold bows on the tops of the ornaments, but my gold cord is elastic and it was very difficult. I'm really loving the gold embossing on the ornaments. It really stands out. It was a fun overall experience, but a little tedious. Here are a couple masking tutorials. Click here for basic masking and click here for reverse masking. My card uses both.

It looks like my week is looking up. My hubby has been out of town since Sunday morning. The kids were off school Monday and Tuesday. I've had a respiratory infection. Colin injured his knee on Tuesday and has been having trouble walking on it. Poor guy is still walking with a limp. He missed school yesterday. Scott will be home in a few hours and I can't wait. Masked Red Ornament Card

Hey ladies! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I posted a picture of my kids below. We had a great time. Trick-or-treating and then the high school football game.

I have a really busy day today, but I still wanted to make a card. This type of card has been around the block. I've seen all kinds of cards like this over the years. It is a one-dimensional card. No layers. Basically, you cut out a circle and use it as a stencil. I used a Coluzzle for my circle. I sponged red ink for the ornament base and then stamped snowflakes with white. My white looks pink though. All in all I think it turned out pretty good for my first attempt. I really wanted to add a little gold, but just couldn't get it to look right. I'm definitely going to try this again but with two or three ornaments.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Happy Friday! What better way to celebrate Halloween than to make a Christmas card. LOL! I guess this chilly weather is really getting to me.

As I've said many times before, Peaceful Wishes is one of my favorite stamp sets. I saw this card on Dawn McVey's blog and the thought of cutting out the pine cones and pine needles never occurred to me. I guess I just knew how tedious and time consuming it would be. My card looks really simple, but it took quite a while to cut out all those images. Something you may not be able to see in the picture is that the pine cones are embossed.

SC200, Let it Snow!

Hey there! Here's a card I made this morning for today's sketch challenge at SCS. The Snowflake Spot is one of my top two favorite stamp sets. I can't believe this one is retired. I'm really into this color combination. It's pretty elegant! This card uses a lot of Whisper White ink. The snowflakes are white, but so are all the edges. If you've used white ink before, you know how tricky it is. It almost never completely dries so smudges are almost inevitable. My fingers are covered with white ink. Halloween Treats!

I was at a total loss thinking about what I was going to make today. So, I decided to make my Halloween treat boxes- finally! I found this take-out treat box idea on this post from Dawn McVey. I kept this idea in the back of my head and when on a random visit to Hobby Lobby, I saw a 10 pack of these small take-out boxes on clearance!! I bought 2 boxes of 10 (all they had left) for $2.15 per box!!!!

Both stamps I used are Michaels $1 stamps. The spider web is embossed. I cut "Halloween" out with pinking sheers. I was able to make all those perfect bows by tying them {get this} upside down. I don't know why, but whenever I tie a bow, the tales are pointing up instead of down. So, I just flipped the box over and they all turned out just perfect. All those "how to tie a perfect bow" instructions always start by making a loop on the right side, and I just can't do it. I tie bows like I tie my shoes. So, I'm very happy with this new discovery.

PaperTrey Ink Blog Hop!

Yay! It's PaperTrey Ink Blog Hop time again! This month the challenge was to use polka dots on your card. I used Polka Dot Parade paper and my Swiss Dots embossing folder for the polka dots. The flowers are by Prima. The sentiment "Birthday Wishes" comes from PaperTrey Ink's Butterfly Kisses stamp set. Here is a close up of the embossed polka dots and you can also see the dimension that the flowers add. The pink paper is from Bazzill Basics.

Good afternoon! I just had the best morning. After dropping off the kids, I picked up some McDonald's for breakfast. Definitely not something I do very often. I went home to my empty house, ate my breakfast while checking email. Then I got out all my scrapping stuff and made this card while watching "Ugly Betty" on my laptop. What great way to just chill out.

On to my card. This card was made for today's limited supply challenge at SCS. The challenge was to use a leaf as your main focal point. Pine needles are leaves, right? I hope so or I just blatantly broke all the rules!! As an added twist, you needed to add a little pink to your card for Pink Week at SCS in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The sentiment "Peaceful Wishes" is embossed using gold embossing powder. The middle panel is popped out on foam dots.

WT189, Just One Word

Hey Girlies! The challenge today at SCS was to use just one word on your card. Easy peasy! I got the idea for the circles from "Cards" magazine. I wish I could credit the designer, but I don't personally have that magazine, I was looking through my SIL's copy the other night. I made the concentric circles using my Coluzzle. I love this look. So easy but a big impact. For the butterflies, I used Papertrey's Butterfly kisses stamp set. I stamped the butterfly outline stamp on the reverse side of the patterned paper and then cut it out. I actually made this cards hours ago and wasn't able to post it earlier because I had to wait for the glue to dry that I used to adhere the butterfly to the ribbon before I could photograph it.

My WorkSpace

I bet you guys thought I fell off the face of the earth! Well, fall break is over and the kids are back at school. I have friends coming over for dinner tonight and I've been cleaning like a mad woman. I cleaned up my scrapping area in the process and thought I would post some pics (since I don't have anything else to post!)

Here's my entire storage system. I only use one of the three drawers on top. You'll see that I'm a pretty frugal scrapper.

I just started organizing my card stock like this. I mostly use Stampin' Up colors, so I just cut their color chart out of the catalog (Earth Elements, Bold Brights, Rich Regals, Soft Subtles, and Naturals). All those papers sticking out of the back is a gallon sized ziploc that I use to store all my scraps.
This is my ribbon organizer. Most of my ribbons fit in this, but I have a few I keep in my embellishment drawer.
My drawer of punches. This is one of the small top drawers.

This is the right side larger drawer. 12x12 paper packs on the bottom, then a few sheets of SU chipboard, my Coluzzle, and then a few 6x6 paper packs stored in ziplocs with there scraps.

Left side drawer. Catalogs and magazines on the left, paper trimmer on the right. Thickers and stickers under the trimmer.

Bottom left cabinet. Stampin Up stamps and box of various envelopes.

I place this green photo box in front of the envelope box. It is my card organizer (my stash!). I have my cards organized by occasion and by recipient. On the first twelve tabs I have the months of the year, and on each cards month, I have the 1-31. I have everyone's birthdays written here and put their card behind it. I try to work a few months ahead of time.

My pink and brown tote is on the bottom shelf. If I have a set of cards I'm working on, I'll keep all the supplies I need here. Currently it is filled with my in-progress Christmas cards.
Bottom right cabinet. The clear drawer is filled with embellishments and some ribbon. Then my Cuttlebug and all the folders and plates in a gallon sized ziploc on the side. The bottom shelf. The clear drawer holds my ink pads and embossing powders. The blue box holds all my clear acrylic stamps and my Michaels $1 stamps. On top of the clear drawer are a few tins I have stashed to alter.
My kitchen table is in front of this cabinet and that is where all the cards get made. My laptop is usually on the kitchen table too.

Swiss Dots Thank You!

Hey everyone! Sorry for the big break in posts. I'm sure you'll understand when you see what I've been up to. The card above was made in about 5 minutes! That's about all the time I had today. The kids are on Fall Break so they needed to be entertained all day. This card is a CASE of this card. I've had this card in my favorites for a while and decided to break in my new Swiss Dots embossing folder. I also used my brand new Stamp-a-ma-jig for precision stamp placement. I used the scorer on my paper trimmer to make the lines above and below the dots.

On Thursday I went with Halle's class to the zoo. I just went through all of the zoo pics and couldn't find one with Halle and an animal. I guess one where Halle is acting like a monkey will have to do.


Friday was the Homecoming Parade and Football Game. Can you guess the team colors?

On Sunday I walked in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk with my friend Angie and her family. Angie has been cancer-free for almost two years!!! The walk was 5 miles and it seemed to go on forever. But it was really well worth the time.
