Another {Friendship} Card...

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Hello!  So glad I procrastinated working in my studio  today.  I waited just the right amount of time,  time for the UPS man to deliver some new card stock.  I cannot believe I let myself run out of kraft and white card stock.  Seriously, it was a bad situation.  I've been using colored card stock for my card bases and using scraps of white and kraft.  I ordered two packs of each plus some other goodies.  I ordered a new-to-me color from Clear & Simple Stamps.  It's called Coral Necklace and I think it's going to be my new favorite color.  It's between hot pink and red.  It's such a deep pink, I love it.  Oh, and I used on today's card :)

I actually thought of this card while I was taking a mid-morning nap, both of which don't happen very often.  I stamped the flower on cream card stock and sliced it into four pieces.  I mounted the pieces on a square of Coral Necklace card stock.
The center of the flower is just a circle punched from Coral Necklace card stock and then covered with an epoxy sticker, then popped up on a foam dimensional.  The sentiment is just a strip of card stock that was slid through a circle punch to round the ends.

Thanks so much for taking the time to see what I've been up to!  Have a wonderful day!!!

A Simple {Friendship} Card...

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Hello!  Today I thought I'd try a new technique that I hadn't heard of before watching the Make-It-Monday video yesterday on Papertrey Ink.  It's a technique called dry brushing.  The video shows paint but as says you can use ink, which is what I used.  I simply inked up my brush and lightly painted the white ink on the card starting from the edge dragging the brush to the center of the card.  I stamped the white chevron stripes before I did the dry brushing.

To make the flower, I used a scalloped circle punch and used scissors to cut a spiral to the center of the circle and then rolled it from the outside to the inside.  It's adhered with glue dots and then I added the black brad to sort of ground it.
You can see the edge of the card where I did the dry brushing technique.  I think it gives the card a sort of shabby chic feel.  What do yo think?

Have a great day!

A {Celebrate Your Day} Card...

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Hi all! I thought I would make a card for PTI's Make It Monday Challenge.  I think this'll be one of my new weekly challenges.   This week the challenge was to make a card using a two-step masking technique.  First you mask the center rectangle to create the outside frame, then you mask the outside frame to stamp in the center.  Nichole shows some shortcuts in her video that I wouldn't have thought to do.  It's always worthwhile to watch the video even if you are familiar with the technique.  I learn something new every week.

Like the card I made last week, I used a background text stamp to make the frame.  I masked off the frame and stamped the flower, then masked the flower to stamp the leaves.  There's a lot of masking going on!!!
The flower and leaves were colored with ink and an aqua-painter.  I did it quickly and it does look like watercolor.  I applied a red rhinestone to the center of the flower and then outlined it with some smaller clear rhinestones.

I'm starting to love these one layer cards.  It's really getting me out of my comfort zone in a good way.

Have a great day!

A {Thank You} Card...

Monday, June 20, 2011

Hi!  We've had storms this morning and my kids totally subdued.  I've been taking advantage of that have been getting things done around the house.  So, this card is for this week's PTI Make-It-Monday Challenge.  I have found that even if I'm familiar with the technique, I still learn something new from watching the video.  In this one Erin showed how to make your edges of the reverse mask more defined by inking the edges.

My card actually used two masking techniques.  First I cut out a rectangle of printer paper, placed it in the center and stamped text over it.  When I removed the mask I was left with a blank rectangle in the center of my card.  I used reverse masking for the red heart.  I punched a heart from some printer paper, used the reverse punch (paper with heart punched out of it) and stamped the flower image in the heart.  I then sponged some red ink lightly all over the heart.  Then I removed the printer paper.
This card was so close to be one layer!  I couldn't help it to add that blue heart.  I decided to add a frame to clearly define the rectangle.  I used a plain old black ballpoint pen and ruler.

Have a great day!

A {Happy Day} Card...

Friday, March 18, 2011

Hello, hello, hello!!!  I'm sharing a card with you that's been days in the making.  This is the very first card I'm sharing using copic markers.  I was finally able to color an image that actually turned out pretty good, and it was so much fun!

Notice anything different about my photo?  I've been noticing lately that my cards are looking dark and out of focus, even the one I took outside in the last post.  Well, I think I've played with the settings a little too much. It was difficult to tell what the setting originally were.  So, I reset my camera back to the factory settings.  Viola, look at today's photos!!!  I only had to crop them.

Anyway, I'm having a great day.  I've had most of the day to myself, I went for a short/hard run this morning.  I had an eye doctor appointment, which wasn't fun but I'm excited about picking out some new glasses that I'll wear as needed.  I got to make a super cute card while watching "The Last Song" on my ipad.  Speaking of ipad, I am officially hooked.  I have the older edition, but I still love it.  The weather here has been gorgeous, high 60's.  I sat out on our deck this morning with a cup of coffee and Scrabble on my ipad.  Perfection.

We are hanging out with friends tomorrow and Scott and I are running in the Heart Mini Marathon 5K on Sunday.  Scott says my running is more like jogging!  Oh well, I get where I need to go.

Enough about me, I hope you all are having a great day and will have a wonderful weekend.

Have a great day!

A {One-of-a-Kind Friend} Card...

Friday, February 4, 2011

Hey friends!  I received so many kind comments on the text background and layout of this card, I thought I would try it again.  The Silhouette Studio Store has a free image every week and last week the free image was the dress form I used on today's card.  It cuts in two pieces, the entire dress form and then shirt/dress part.

To make the masked text background I created an image using the Silhouette Studio.  I simply made a rectangle that was 5.5" x 4.25" and then inside that rectangle I cut another rectangle that was 3.5" x 2.25".  Once this was all cut out, I removed the middle rectangle, placed the paper (looking like a frame) over the card front and then stamped the text.  Since the text turned out so faint I used a white gel pen to outline the box, tracing along the lines of the mask.  Easy peasy!

I have a fun weekend planned.  Tonight is a girls dinner at my friend's house.  She has a meal planned that celebrates the Chinese New Year.  That should be fun and interesting.  It's impossible not to have fun when I'm with those girls.  Tomorrow night is a date night with my hubby.  Hopefully dinner and a movie and then we'll end the night watching our cousins make fools of themselves doing karaoke.  And then of course Sunday is the SuperBowl.  We'll be cheering on the Packer's at a party at another friend's house.

Hope you all have a fun weekend ahead of you!

A {There's No One Like You, Friend} Card...

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Hello!  As you all know I've been having fun trying out all sorts of things with my new Silhouette SD.  I would like to incorporate it in my card making, but haven't quite figured out how I'm gonna do that.  I don't want to make an entire card out of silhouette designs, but would like to incorporate it in small ways with embellishments.  So far I haven't been completely in love with anything I've made card wise.

So, here's the card I made today.  I don't even know what to call the star-like focal point.  That was cut from the silhouette on black card stock and then layered on the orange patterned paper.  I'm finding out that the Clear & Simple Stamps card stock cuts really well but the Papertrey Ink kind is just too thick, even when I select to cut the image out twice.
I filled the center with red rhinestones and then accented the sentiment with orange rhinestones.  Hopefully I'll be able to strike a balance soon and get all this figured out.

Have a great day!

A card for "My Fabulous Friend"...

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

I just added my Twitter feed to the side bar!  Now that I have a cool new phone, I plan on tweeting a lot more.
Hello!  I am finally posting a card for today.  This card has been finished since this morning, but I'm just getting around to posting it.  All of the papers come from Hippy Girl by Kaiser Craft.  I can't tell you how much I love all those papers.  The tag is a die cut that came with the paper pad.
That little line of purple above the orange scallops is a strand of purple floss.  I didn't like the raw edge and the floss covered it up nicely.

Sorry this is so short, but I'm exhausted.  Hope you're having a great day!

There's No One Like You, Friend...

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Hey there!  I made a card this morning for the Sketch Challenge on SCS.  I think it turned out super cute but had a heck of a time getting a good photo.  I took 26.  You'd think one would be good.

Okay, about my card.  I used a piece of patterned paper from Indian Summer by Basic Grey along with some coordinating card stock and a rectangle of cork.  The layer around the cork has distressed edges.  The cream strip of paper that says "there's no one like you" has a foam dimensional under the center so that the whole strip sort of arcs.  Hopefully you can sort of see that on the photo below.

I punched the butterflies out of some Indian Summer scraps I had and adhered them with rolled up glue dots.

Well, I would love to chat some more, but I have a sick little boy who needs some pampering.  I hope you all have a great day!!!

Happy Birthday, Friend...

Monday, May 17, 2010

Hello!  I need to make a card for my friend's birthday that is coming up next week.  I'm so thankful for my Birthday Calendar reminder in Facebook or else no one would be getting cards from me.  Anyway, I just wanted to sit down and dream up a fabulous card, but I couldn't get the Mojo Monday sketch out of my head.  I disregarded it when I saw it this morning since it had that one crooked panel, and you know I just can't deal with that.  So, I decided to make that panel straight.  I don't think I'll get arrested by the sketch police.

I'm trying to use up some older patterned paper to make room for new ones.  I absolutely love Indian Summer by Basic Grey.  Somehow it was pushed aside for bigger and better things.  This is an older collection but Paper Maniac still has 6 x 6 pads and coordinating embellies.

Here's a close up to show you all the lovely layers and dimension.
I hope you all have a great day!  My kids are off school tomorrow for election day here in KY.  So, I'm sleeping in and hope to have a card to share will you all in the afternoon.  Thanks for stopping by!!!

Cherished Forever...

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Hello!  It turns out that Halle did have strep throat.  She's feeling about 95% better since she started on the antibiotic.  Now we are just keeping our fingers crossed that no one else comes down with it.  We did have a relaxing morning since Halle couldn't go back to school yet.

For my card today I used this week's CPS sketch. I used some My Mind's Eye paper again.  I think you guys will be happy when I finally run out.  I just love it so much.  The rectangle element with the birds was a die cut that came with the paper.  It had a border on the top that I sliced off.
The word "forever" comes from the Papertrey Ink set "Friends 'til the end".
Just wanted to share that I somehow managed to grow something!  I do not have a green thumb and was surprised to see this little plant sprouting this morning.  New life!!!

Hope you all are having a fabulous day!
