A {Friendship} Card...

Hello there!  Just a quick post for me today.  It's been a busy day and I still have a lot to do.  This card is what I thought would be a quick and easy card.  I wasn't completely wrong, but it's not as easy as it looks.  The idea for this card came from this card on Susan Raihala's blog, which I just started to follow recently.  I don't know how I stumbled upon it, but I'm so glad I did.  She makes a lot of one-layer cards that are simply stunning.  


Anyhow, I decided that faux stitching the frames would go with the sentiment.  Since I only have two colors of fine tip markers, I decided to use only two frames.  Instead of using a frame stamp (because I don't have one), I used a ruler and pencil.

I think the longest part was choosing which buttons I wanted to use.  I have so many, it was really hard to decide.  The buttons are threaded with slivers of pink card stock.

A {Sew Happy for You} Card...

 

Hello!  It's such a gloomy day here today. Full of rain, thunder and lightning and I have a sick little girl with a hacking cough.  I thought it'd be nice to share a happy card.


This card came about when I was practicing coloring with my new copic markers.  When I first got them I took a piece of white card stock and stamped a bunch of different images on it and went to town practicing some coloring techniques.  I loved how these spools of thread turned out that I cut them right off my practice paper and glued them as a trio to another piece of white paper. I filled in the top and bottom of each spool with a fine-tip black marker.  

The patterned paper that I selected not only coordinates with the spools of thread, but they look like styles of fabric you would find at your local fabric store.  I added some floss to tie in with the sewing theme.

Clear & Simple Stamps: Group Project

Hey there!  It's a fun day around these parts.  It's Group Project day with Clear & Simple Stamps.  This month the design team and I were challenged to create a card or 3D item using fabric.  How fun!  This combines two of my favorite hobbies.

So, I used this month's SOTM, On the Mend II and some fabric to create two hair accessories any little girl would be happy to wear.   

Here's the set.  It's a head band and a barrette that is clipped to a gift tag.

The tag was created out of Kraft Like a Rockstar card stock with some patterned paper.  I created the faux stitching using a ruler and a black sharpie.  I punched two holes in the center of the tag and that's how the barrette is attached to the tag.

This was my daughter's headband.  It was already covered in pink ribbon.  I simply tore off the tacky flower that came on it and replaced it with these three fabric flowers that I made.

And here's my little girl modeling her new headband.  She absolutely loved it.

About the flowers.  They are super simple to make.  All you need is some thin strips of fabric and a glue gun.  I started by tying a knot in the end of a fabric strip and then gluing that knot to a little circle of card stock or felt (both work fine).  From there, all you do is twist the fabric and wrap it around the knot, gluing here and there to keep the fabric attached to the felt base.  When your flower is big enough, simply wrap the fabric around the back and glue it down.  Once your flower is finished, hot glue it to whatever your heart desires.

Clear & Simple Stamps: April 2011 Release

I'm so happy to share the April release of Clear & Simple Stamps with you.  No fooling here!  This latest set is called On the Mend II, it coordinates with a previously released set On the Mend.  This set is so cute and fun, but it's not all about sewing.  It's so versatile, let me show you.

I have to say that I'm in love with this card.  It started by creating a background with the ruler image.  I continued stamping the ruler image on the the kraft card stock using Versamark, for a subtle pattern.  I colored the rulers using Yellow Trio 4 Copic Markers.  If you can't tell, I've been having a lot of fun with Copics lately.

For the stitching, I simply paper pierced the perimeter of my rectangle and then stitched it with yellow/gold floss.  Each stitch goes through the hole from the back and then wraps around to the back again through the next hole.  The heart and kraft panel were adhered using foam dimensionals.  The sentiment strip is curved for a fun, waving in the wind look and is anchored by two tiny silver pearls.
